Late breaking news. Sorry for the lack of notice. If you can’t make tonight’s lecture (as I can’t, sadly) then the exhibition looks well worth a visit:
Private view and lecture: Tuesday 11 January
"We begin at 5.30 in the Exhibition Room with a private view of this new exhibition which draws from collections of Schmoller’s work across the country. Tanya Schmoller will then officially open the exhibition in the Bridewell Hall at 7.00pm. Our guest speakers for the evening are Jerry Cinamon and Phil Baines. All welcome to the private view. Tickets for the lecture are available on the door at £5 (£3 for concessions). "
"Jerry Cinamon has had a long and distinguished career in British publishing, principally as Chief Designer at Penguin Books and as author of the recently-published biography of the letterer and type designer Rudolf Koch. He edited The Monotype Recorder edition devoted to Hans Schmoller (April 1987). "
"Phil Baines, designer and teacher, is currently writing Penguin by design: a cover story 1935–2005 (to be published by Allen Lane the Penguin Press in 2005). The picture researcher and designer of that book and the curator of the exhibition is David Pearson. David is presently a designer at Penguin Books. His recent covers for the Great Ideas series have been featured extensively in the design press. "
