Basecamp

A new web-based project management tool by 37 Signals. Looks v interesting. Typically beautiful design from this firm. Looks to be a genuinely useful tool. Will test a bit at work, for sure.

"Basecamp is a simple, hosted web-based service that lets designers manage projects and quickly create client/project extranets. It lets you and your clients keep your conversations, contacts, reviews, schedules, to-do lists, and more in one place — password protected and accessible from any computer. Plus, since Basecamp looks, feels, and works like a blog, it’s a breeze to use."

Beautiful? Of all of their work, this one actually strikes me as just plain, though a good kind of plain.

I guess the word (which isn’t really a word – yet) is beautilitarian. Beautiful in a utilitarian sense (coined by Simon Hopkins). I think that kind of restraint and reduction does have a certain beauty to it.

Any reports on using Basecamp at work yet Dan? Would be interested to read a follow-up…
