Two things I said recently: a) no more posts about Grand Theft Auto for a while, and b) "music industry wake up", in response to the potential for music within/around games. The former is patently nonsense. As for the latter:

"Rockstar Games and Sony Music Entertainment proudly announce a landmark collaboration to release the soundtrack for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Rockstar Games and Sony Music have joined forces to release seven simultaneous soundtrack albums on October 29th concurrent with the launch of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system in the United States. The soundtracks will be released on the Epic Records label."

"The Grand Theft Auto: Vice City soundtrack albums will be the definitive 80’s music collection, with each album containing musical tracks from one of the numerous radio stations featured in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Each album will replicate a station from the in-game 1980’s radio FM dial, ranging from Heavy Metal and Soul to Hip-Hop and Pop Ballads. Players will once again have the ability to tune the radio station in every car that they carjack to one of many stations of their choice. The radio stations in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City will feature the largest selection of music ever assembled for a video game with over eighty staggering tracks from artists such as Judas Priest, Blondie, Flock of Seagulls, Kool and the Gang, Hall and Oates, Grandmaster Flash, Cutting Crew and many, many more that span the entire musical spectrum of the period."

  17. Anybody know who did that song, “Here in my car I feel safest of all. I can lock all my doors, its the only way I’ll live…in cars”

  18. What is the song called thats played during the intro to the game? Like when all the credits are being shown, and it has no words.

  19. You can find the 7 CD box set in the HMV sale… I was sorely tempted…
As for music inspired games – well Queen did a game called The Eye in the mid 90s. I’m not a gamer so have never played it, but the msuic had lots of one off instrumnentals so I bought it for that.
Lack of sales suggests the game was poor, but the idea behind it – taking inspiration for characters, situations and zones from the songs was (I thought at least,) interesting – they also knicked a lot of the art work and design look and feel from the albums too.
Obviously game makers do this all the time with books – but are their other instances of doing it with music and album artwork as the inspiration?

  20. Soooo, does anyone actually have that intro song where the credits are playing? I guess it’s an original song by Rockstar or something but is it available on any CD or on the ‘net anywhere?
I really really want that intro song. Please e-mail me with info if you know where I can get it.

  21. If you like any song really much why not just try and record it yourself off the game, either through speakers to microphone on a stereo system, or through some software program. I did this for all the radio stations so i can listen to them on my walkman.

  22. If youre wondering what a song’s title and artist are, why not look in the manual in the playlist and see if you can find a song of which the title seems similar to the lyrics in your head. Or if you have lost the manual, serch on the Internet for a list of the songs in that radio sation; there are many possible sites.

  23. Where can I find the name of all the songs on each soundtrack? I’m hoping for a link or something to a site.
    Ps: thanks in advanced

  24. What’s the name of the instrumental song that is also in the background of Will Smith’s Summertime. AIM: DIEGOMARRON

  28. i wanna download the songs of vice city radio stations. please help me by giving the url’s of the sites that i can find them.

  29. Anyone know the name of the opera song in the commercials? Me and my friends are making a skate vid and would love to use that song. Just click on my name under where i posted to tell me cos i probably wont find my way back to this page.

  30. The theme song is origional and is fairly common on the net, the wordless song on Emotion is “Crocett’s Theme” by Jan Hammer (pronounced “yon hommer”), James, the song is “Turn Up The Radio” by Autograph, the song that goes “i might like you better if we slept together” is “Never Say Never” by Romeo Void, and the song coming over the speakers is “Dance Hall Days” by Wang Chung

  31. I think the instrumental song on FEVER you guys are referring to is “Summer Madness” by Kool & The Gang.
