“Architectural critic Reyner Banham explores Los Angeles in this 1972 BBC documentary”, it says here.

Excellent!

Extraordinary. I read Banham’s work a lot for research, and there he is, come to life in front of me. Not at all what I expected, either – he has a subtle playfulness that belies his very serious writing. All that cheeky eccentricity reminds me somewhat of Jonathan Meades. I wonder if Jonathan saw that documentary in 1972?

Three of the tour hosts at Esotouric Bus Adventures in LA trained under Reyner Banham as undergraduates at UC Santa Cruz, and he utterly changed the way we see our native Southern California. In tribute, we will be launching a new tour in fall 2007 called “Reyner Banham Loves Los Angeles,” to join such city tours as Raymond Chandler’s Los Angeles, The Real Black Dahlia, John Fante’s Bunker Hill, Weird West Adams, Pasadena Confidential and Riot on Sunset Strip.
