Thomas Van Der Wal passed me the Musical Baton. I find these kind of things impossible – particularly if I try to really say the five songs that mean most to me over time, as it leads to an enormous list of songs that are impossible to leave out. I just can’t seem to reduce something like ‘most meaningful music’ down to five particular units of consumption. That question is just too hard. So the list below represents the here and now. 24973 songs, taking up 156.19GB of an external hard drive. This is 2959 artists according to iTunes, spread over a possible 84.7 days of continuous listening. Bloody hell.
The last CD I bought
A fistfull o’ Mike Ladd’s Negrophilia, Caribou’s Milk of Human Kindness, The Books’ Lost and Safe, the Anticon Label Sampler 1999-2004, and The Necks’ Drive By. And acquired from a friend at the same time (old fashioned CD-swap-not-fileshare, fwiw): Broadway Project’s In Finite, Trojan Dub Massive Vol. 1 and 2 mixed by Bill Laswell, and Charles Mingus’ At Carnegie Hall and Charles Mingus presents Charles Mingus.
