Regarding the previous post of gig photos, I hugely enjoy taking digital photos in low light conditions like that. Without a flash, digital cameras seem to hone in on and suck out any red light in the vicinity, and smear it all over the photo, painting with light to give near-Francis Bacon-like effects.
Sometimes the effect is more screenprint, as on the left above. I’ve fiddled with these a bit, but not much (levels, basically). But a few years ago I experimented a bit more, drawing with oil pastels over the top of printouts of digital photos I’d taken at a Marc Ribot gig, and then folding those back into the original images. Results below.
