Making models

In last month’s Wallpaper* magazine ("Size matters" cover), a typically luscious photospread juxtaposed a series of groovy objects on to some wonderfully detailed and massive models of New York, Tokyo, and Shanghai. Checking the resources section at the back of the mag, turns out the models are from the Mori Urban Institute for the Future, part of the giant Mori building complex in Tokyo.

Model being built

The site doesn’t reveal the detail and scale of the models, sadly, despite describing the process step-by-step. Can’t find anything else online about them, so do try to have a sneaky browse towards the front of Wallpaper* at these fantastic creations.

I saw these models at the Mori Institute in March. They are spectacular, particularly the one of Tokyo. If you live within the Yamanote Line (which circles the heart of Tokyo), you can even find your apartment building.

The Minato-City model by Mori is on display in Stockholm currently, at the Museum of Architecture. The exhibition ends on September 26th. Here are some shots I took of it.
